Product Review: Mineral Fusion Eye Pencil

I don't think I've gone a day without eyeliner in the past 12 years. Really... I can't go into public without at least a little bit on. I'm not ashamed, everyone has their one makeup essential, and if you don't then I envy you. But when I actually sit and think about it, I've been putting this eyeliner made from God knows what into my eye every single day for over a decade, and half the time it doesn't even completely come off and most of the time there's particles of it floating around my eyeball that I have to carefully pick out. So yesterday at Whole Foods I finally decided to take that jump to reinvent my makeup bag. It is bittersweet in a way, since it took me years to perfect my makeup selection but at the same time it feels really good that I am getting one step closer to being chemical free, especially because everything you put on your body eventually goes inside your body.

So there were a few options at Whole Foods, including Mineral Fusion and Dr. Hauschka. For those of you not familiar with Dr. Hauschka, he has some incredible skin care products- if you're ever looking for an allergen, chemical free equivalent to a name brand face cream, cleanser, etc. check out this brand. Really top notch. Unfortunately the eyeliner didn't really impress me, and the price was $24 for one pencil which is double the price I'm willing to spend on eyeliner.

I then tried on Mineral Fusion-"Minerals On A Mission" Coal colored eye pencil. It is completely free of parabens, artificial colors, fragrances, talc, gluten and is hypo allergenic and not tested on animals. It also contains chamomile and vitamin E, both of which are soothing to the skin around the eyes. I did the usual test of running it across the back of my hand with really light pressure and the amount and depth of color showing up was pretty shocking honestly. I instantly picked up the box and bought it for $15, only $3 more than the Sephora brand one I usually buy. I'm looking forward to checking out some of their other products, and they actually have a sale going on online right now for 25% of all products (wish I had checked the website before buying in the store).

Not the clearest photo since taking a photo of your own eye can be quite challenging, but here is the test result: Glides on really well, may have to go over the area a few times but if you are using it only on the bottom of your eyes it's perfect! Found a great addition to my new makeup bag. Going back home in two weeks to New Jersey so I'm excited to check out some health food stores (including my own) for more options since there aren't many in-store options here in Canada. Next mission: foundation & mascara !

Score: 8.5/10
Pros:
Soft, easy gliding
Soothing herbs
Cons:
Not amazing for eyelids but works really well on bottom
90% chemical free
Would I try this again
Or try other products from company?
Definitely

A great website to check toxicity levels of thousands of products from shampoo to blush check out The Environmental Working Group Cosmetic Database

Hope you enjoyed this product review- first of many to come!
